LIMITATIONS FOR NEW LICENSORS
The category B driving license provides for speed and driving restrictions for the first three years from the date of passing the exam.
New drivers, i.e. those who have obtained their B license less than three years ago, must only observe specific speed limits. They cannot go more than 100 km/h on the motorway and more than 90 km/h on the main extra-urban roads (art. 117 Highway Code). Furthermore, if they commit infringements which lead to points being deducted, they will be deducted double the points , e.g. driving with a mobile phone which makes you lose 5 points, makes the new driver lose 5×2=10 (art. 126 bis highway code).
For one year from obtaining the B license they will not be able to drive motor vehicles with a weight/power ratio greater than 55 kW/t with a maximum of 70 kW. To find out if you can drive a particular vehicle you must therefore consult the registration document. In case of doubts you can consult the portal of the Ministry of Transport (ilportaledellautomobilista.it) where by entering the vehicle license plate you will obtain the information you are looking for.
